Charitable Donations: How Should We Share Our Profits with Others?
By Ann Morrow
Hopefully you already know that PBC continues to celebrate the success of our own 2026 Pioneer Century and the 2026 Seattle to Portland finish line. Those events helped PBC earn money. It’s gratifying to have a strong, positive cash flow. Now, as the year comes to an end, isn’t it nice to be able to contemplate spending some of our hard earned wealth?
You, PBC members, worked hard on both Pioneer Century and Seattle to Portland. Our 2026 income did not come easily. It was not gifted to us; it was EARNED by us.
What to do with some of our freshly acquired wealth? This is YOUR club. What are your ideas? In the past we have donated to organizations such as Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway, Community Cycling Center, Bikes for Humanity, and Bike Clark County. Over the years we have shared many thousands of dollars with our friends who promote cycling.
Your board will review your suggestions at the December board meeting (December 16). Our Treasurer will advise us on a dollar amount PBC can comfortably spend. Your ideas will be discussed and funds will be allocated.
Tell us who we should share our funds with and WHY. Who should be a beneficiary of Portland Bicycling Club? Please log in to the club website and check here first for the criteria: https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Charitable-Donation-Guideline-2018-October.pdf
Reach out to any board member before December 16 and express your thoughts.
Additionally, we have donated money for bike hubs and had bike racks built. Thoughts on more of that kind of activity?
Should we spend money on Ride Leader water bottles? Subsidize club clothing? This is a separate matter but do you want to spend some money on ourselves, our club? What do YOU think? Talk to a board member! https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/home/contact-info/
Your input matters.
