Oregon Randonneurs: Verboort Populaire 100K
Description
If you’ve been thinking about trying randonneuring, this event is the perfect introduction: ORR Verboort Populaire (a metric century). Randonneuring is non‑competitive, camaraderie‑based endurance cycling. Oregon Randonneurs is the local chapter of Randonneurs USA (RUSA), which sanctions timed, long‑distance events known as brevets. The emphasis is self‑support, personal challenge, and community – not racing. Each distance has a maximum completion time, and riders who finish within that window are official finishers. All bicycles must be human‑powered.
This populaire has one route with 3,396 feet of climbing, and you’ll have 6 hours and 40 minutes to complete it. Starting at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, the route heads toward OR‑6, climbs briefly to the small town of Timber, crosses Hwy 26, and winds toward Vernonia. From there, you’ll hop onto the Banks-Vernonia rail trail and jig‑jog back through bucolic farmland to finish at the Verboort Sausage & Kraut Festival (with beer garden): https://www.verboort.org/dinner
