Weekend Waterfalls: Troutdale to Viento Trailhead Out & Back

Description

This weekend will be a WATERFALL BONANZA! We'll go up the Columbia River Gorge for a scenic cascade‑collecting adventure. We’ll roll east along the Historic Columbia River Highway, passing a string of iconic Gorge waterfalls: Latourell Falls, Shepperd’s Dell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Multnomah Falls, and Horsetail Falls – the classics we know and love.

From there, we'll continue on the state trail, crossing over the Toothrock Tunnel, and on to Eagle Creek. There's a short section of stairs, where we'll pause for a regroup, and if you're unable to navigate the stairs with your bicycle, I'll help you. There's the option to turn around at that point, if you prefer, making your out-and-back distance 62 miles. If you're interested in a shorter ride, you're also welcome either 1) to start/end anywhere farther along the route or 2) to start with us and end earlier. If you decide to go the whole distance, we'll continue from Eagle Creek to Cascade Locks, and to the next set of waterfalls: Hole‑in‑the‑Wall Falls, Cabin Creek Falls, and Starvation Creek Falls. Total distance ≈ 90 miles.

There are many restrooms and water-bottle refill spots along the way; Bridal Veil Falls (west of Eagle Creek) is a good restroom stop. We'll decide together about a coffee break, either Multnomah Falls or Herman's Coffee Bar (both west of Eagle Creek), and also stop briefly at Hole-in-the-Wall Falls (east of Eagle Creek) for a DIY snack.

You'll have the option to ride with me as a group (we'll re-group at key points) and must be able to maintain a minimum cruising speed of 13 MPH on a flat or gentle hill terrain. Riders slower than 13 MPH on Level A terrain and faster riders are welcome to participate non-group and ride at their own pace. (The second RwGPS map below is only for reference; we won't be completing that entire route.)
