Your Club at Work (BOD Activities)

By Steve Price, Vice President

Recent Board of Directors Activity

The Board voted to terminate the membership of a former member due to incidents in violation of our code of conduct.

Work continues on launching an on-line forum where members can seek and share cycling related information.  Launch date is October 1.

Dave McQuery has drafted a new welcoming letter to new members.  This comes after a recent new member advised us that he had not received much information on what resources the club offers or how to access those resources.  The new letter is intended to advise new members on those matters.

The Board also discussed initiating mini-workshops at club meetings on such subjects as how to change a tire, how to fix a flat on the road, how to clean and wax a chain and the like.  Our hope is that these activities would attract increased club participation by old and new members alike.  The Board encourages members who would like to attend a particular mini workshop, or who would like to put one on, to contact a Board member with that information.

Probably the biggest subject discussed was raised by Richard Rosenberg.  This is the recruiting and training of new people to take over such critical jobs as volunteer coordinator for STP and/or the Pioneer Century, club treasurer, club picnic organizer, and the like.  The people who currently fill these positions cannot do so forever.  If one or more of them were suddenly unable to serve, that could lead to cancellation of a critical club function, such as participating in STP or putting on the Pioneer Century.  We invite member suggestions on how to make this process easier and how to recruit new volunteers.  For example, dividing up the tasks of a current position into two or more areas of responsibility so that each volunteer will have a more manageable time commitment than a single person who has to do everything.  Or arranging mini apprenticeships so that a prospective volunteer can work alongside a current volunteer to learn how to perform a particular role.

The Board invites your suggestions and encourages you to consider volunteering.
