Vintage Anniversary Ride: “Through the Years”

Celebrating Portland Bicycling Club's 55th Anniversary.

Join us for a special anniversary ride honoring the long, colorful history of our club: Portland Wheelmen Touring Club and Portland Bicycling Club. This ride invites members to showcase the club’s development through the years. For 55 years, our club has been rolling throughout Oregon with thousands of riders, countless routes, and endless memories. This ride is a tribute to all of it — the early days, the middle years, and the miles still ahead. Come ride “Through the Years” with us and help us celebrate the next chapter of PBC.

Everyone can join. If you have a vintage bike or a steel-framed bike, ride it. If you have an old club jersey, wear it. If you don’t, just add a retro accessory, or come as you are. The goal is camaraderie, celebrating, and sharing our history.

Theme: Wear any past PWTC/PBC jersey or add a retro‑inspired touch to your modern kit. Wool jerseys, crochet string-back cycling gloves, cotton caps, vintage bikes, old handlebar bags...anything that nods to cycling’s past is welcome. If you have a club pin from the year you joined, wear it. Or wear any year's pin, or wear all of them.

This is a fair-weather ride with a fun nostalgic vibe on the last day of summer and first day of autumn. If the weather is not favorable for vintage leather seats on the 22nd, the ride will be rescheduled. Therefore, SAVE TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, on your calendar (and pencil in backup date of Tuesday, September 29). This ride will be a relaxed, social pace – not a workout (plan for that later). We'll stop at Cycle Town Coffee Roasters halfway through the ride. There'll be time to chat and reminisce, and we'll hear stories from longtime members. Of course, we'll also pause for a group photo highlighting vintage bicycles and jerseys from across the decades.

Whether you’ve been riding with the club for five months or five decades, this is a chance to celebrate the friendships, the miles, and the memories that make our club what it is. Happy 55th Anniversary, Portland Bicycling Club!
