Memorial Day Rides in Central Oregon – May 28-30, 2022

From Bud Rice and Arden Shelton, Ride Leaders

We are offering these three rides in Central Oregon over Memorial Day weekend in 2022. If you are interested in going you might want to reserve a room somewhere early since it is a holiday weekend. The two Bend rides start from Pioneer Park at the north end of Bend’s old downtown, on Wall Street. The other ride starts in Prineville. These are the same three rides that got smoked and rained out in September.

Saturday, May 28: Ride West of Bend. Distance around 38 miles with shorter options. Leaves at 10:00 a.m. from  Bend’s Pioneer Park at Wall and Portland Streets at the north end of Bend’s old downtown. Ride out and back to the Tumalo Falls parking lot before a lunch stop at a food cart pod in Bend. Then circle around west of Bend past Shevlin Park and Tumalo State Park. Maps provided at the start. Non-group ride. Level C/D.  Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected] and Arden Shelton 503-709-7252.

Sunday, May 29: The Prineville/Crooked River Canyon Ride. Distance 40 miles. Leaves at 10:30 a.m. from Stryker Park at 4th and Court in Prineville, OR. This is about a 40-mile drive from Bend. Ride Hwy 27 from Prineville up to the dam that forms Prineville Reservoir. Travel past farms, ranches, and a number of BLM campgrounds and day use areas along the Crooked River. This out and back ride is one of the Oregon State Scenic Bikeways. There is water from a pump at the last campground, but bring food for a lunch stop. There is nowhere to get anything out there. Maps provided at the start. Non-group ride. Level C. Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected], and Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252.

Monday, May 30: The Ride North of Bend. Distance around 35 miles. Leaves at 10:00 a.m. from Bend’s Pioneer Park at Wall and Portland Streets, at the north end of Bend’s old downtown. Ride mostly low traffic, back roads through farm and ranch country. Cross the Deschutes River twice. Maps provided at the start. Non-group ride. Level C. Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected], and Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252.
